Spring session update #2 – April 1, 2020

Dear Heels Over Head Xperience Gymnastics Members,

It is with sincere regret that this pandemic will be affecting us longer than originally estimated.  The spread of this virus has escalated in the two weeks since our last correspondence and reached the Renfrew county.  This has caused a huge upset in all our lives, affecting almost every aspect of our regular schedules and we feel for each and every one of membership families and the rest of our communities.

On a personal note we are dealing well.  Our gym is closed, but we hope you had a chance to enjoy the videos sent out to you by our friends at Fundy Gymnastics in New Brunswick.  As the social distancing recommendations remain in effect for the present time, we hope to offer some further home programming in partnership with Gymnastics Ontario in the interim.  Details to follow soon.

Two weeks ago, we hoped to start a 12-week Spring session on April 6th to align with the school closures.  Now that they have been further delayed and plan for a May 4th return, we will plan for similar timing allowing for an 8-week session taking us to the end of June.  We are hoping for the best.  At this time, we will not do an automatic refund for those registered in the Spring session, however we understand that some of you may be in a similar tough situation as we are.  We would like to accommodate everyone as much as we can and will be happy to refund your payment for the Spring session and open up your spot (please email your request to info@xperiencegymnastics.com).  If you are comfortable keeping your spot in the session with the plan to open on May 4th, we are happy to continue to hold your spot and compensate you for the difference in session fees at that time. Should we need to make further changes to our schedule moving forward we will assess our options at that time.

Please rest assured that all fees paid for the Spring session will be compensated and none of our members will incur a loss of fees that have been paid for the Spring session.

Thank you so much for your continued patience and support through this difficult time,

Dmitri and Ashley

Message to our memebership:

Dear Heels Over Head Xperience Gymnastics Members,

Given the current circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to suspend all recreation and competitive programming until April 6th, 2020 to align with the school closure and recommendations given by Gymnastics Ontario.   During that time, we will continue to assess the situation and make further changes if needed.  We will be looking to condense the Spring session to a 12-week session instead of the planned 14-week session.  We will be looking to compensate the families already registered appropriately but will refrain from doing so until it becomes clear that no further alterations are needed.

All Field trips, group bookings and birthday parties are being are being cancelled, to be rescheduled at a future date and a credit will be places on your account in the amount of the deposit you have paid. Xperience staff will contact you in the coming weeks regarding a new booking date.

As of this afternoon, there is no indication that any relief will be able to cover us for this closure. This will put a financial burden on our company and on our family. We understand that this and many other measures being put into place to control the spread of COVID 19 are also putting financial burdens on you and your families. We are all in this together.

Warmest Regards,

Dmitri & Ashley Lely

HEELS OVER HEAD XPERIENCE GYMNASTICS

RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS

Parent and Tot

Parent participation is required in this 45-minute coach supervised class for boys and girls. In this class parents/caregivers bring their toddler from station to station. Focus is on working body and spatial awareness while developing the 6 dominant movement patterns (landings, locomotions, swings, springs, rotations and statics) through basic gymnastic skills in a fun, interactive environment.

  • Pre-requisite: walking

Kindergym 2-3 years

Our Kindergym 2-3 program is an hour long coach run circuit for both girls and boys. In this program athletes are encouraged to stay with the group while parents watch from our designated viewing area. Parents are not allowed on the gymnastics floor in this class. Focus for this program is the continued development of the 6 dominant movement patterns (landings, locomotions, swings, springs, rotations and statics) and gross motor patterns, as well as basic skills (such as waiting in line for their turn, following along with the group) that will help in further classes as well as their introduction to school through basic gymnastic skills in a fun, interactive environment.

  • Pre-requisite: able to participate without parental involvement

Kindergym 4-5 years

Our Kindergym 4-5 program continues to prepare these toddlers for the classes in “the big gym”, by this point athletes should be working independently from mom and dad, (who can choose to remain close by if needed).  Athletes should be able to wait their turn in line and follow the group.  This setting allows the coaches to further develop their skills, now that body awareness and gross motor skills are developing while navigating a still familiar obstacle course of equipment.

  • Pre-requisite: able to participate without parental involvement

Girls 3-4 years

In this hour long program athletes must be able to follow a coach independently. Gymnasts are introduced to the CanGym badge system and will work skills on vault, bars, beam, floor and trampoline. Focus is on Fun, Fitness and Fundamentals, and learning to safely navigate and share “the big gym” while developing gymnastics skill, confidence and expertise of their body.

  • Pre-requisite: able to participate completely independently. Parents will not be accessible during class time.

Girls 4-5 years

In this hour and a half long program athletes follow a coach independently. They continue to work on vault, bars, beam, floor and trampoline but will work the skills they have already acquired more in depth to progress through the CanGym badge levels.

  • Pre-requisite: able to participate completely independently. Parents will not be accessible during class time.

Girls 6-8 years

This program is an hour and half long and is designed to work through the CanGym badge levels within the age group (for a healthy social environment). Gymnasts will progress at their own pace through a variety of exercises on each of the Womens Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) events and trampoline to achieve gymnastics skill, confidence and expertise of their body.

  • Pre-requisite: must have reached age restrictions at time of registration.

Girls 9+ years

This program is an hour and half long and is designed to work through the CanGym badge levels within the age group (for a healthy social environment). Gymnasts will progress at their own pace through a variety of exercises on each of the Womens Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) events and trampoline to achieve gymnastics skill, confidence and expertise of their body.

  • Pre-requisite: must have reached age restrictions at time of registration.

Boys 4-6 years

In this hour long program athletes must be able to follow a coach independently. Gymnasts are introduced to the CanGym badge system and will work skills on floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, high bar and trampoline. Focus is on Fun, Fitness and Fundamentals, and learning to safely navigate and share “the big gym” while developing gymnastics skill, confidence and expertise of their body.

  • Pre-requisite: able to participate completely independently. Parents will not be accessible during class time.

Boys 7+ years

This program is an hour and half long and is designed to work through the CanGym badge levels within the age group (for a healthy social environment). Gymnasts will progress at their own pace through a variety of exercises on each of the Mens Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) events and trampoline to achieve gymnastics skill, confidence and expertise of their body.

  • Pre-requisite: must have reached age restrictions at time of registration.

Acro 6-8 years

With the direction of a coach, this hour long program is designed to help athletes work acrobatic skills on floor at their own pace.  To develop and achieve skills the coach will use progressions, strength and flexibility exercises. This is a great program, for both acro dancers and cheerleaders looking to develop their skills or gymnasts with little interest in the other gymnastics events.

  • Pre-requisite: must have reached age restrictions at time of registration.

Acro 9+ years

With the direction of a coach, this two-hour long program is designed to help athletes work acrobatic skills on floor at their own pace.

Trampoline 7+ years

This class focuses solely on the trampoline and mini-tramp parts of the gymnastics world.  Athletes will work at developing skills on the trampoline and learning how to safely work with this event. Physical preparation will be planned into each class, as a part of the program.

  • Pre-requisite: must have reached age restrictions at time of registration.

Adult 15+ years

This open class is for the young and old, accomplished and new gymnasts alike.  After a directed warm-up, this class will move from event to event to help adults of any age develop their skills and enjoy the unique way gymnastics develops fitness.  The programming of this class is heavily self driven based on desired goals of the participants.

Gymnastics teaches the ABC’S of athleticism:

                  AGILITY...BALANCE...COORDINATIONSPEED

There are no natural born athletes.  All children need to acquire the physical skills to participate with confidence in any physical activity.   If we give children the opportunity to do the right physical activities at the right time in their development, more of them will enjoy getting active and most will stay active.

Just as children need to be taught how to read and to write, they need to be taught how to run, jump and throw.  It is called physical literacy.  Movement is a child’s first language.  Without learning the basic movement skills before adolescent growth, a child will have difficulty participating in any sport.  The basic movement skills of athletics (running), swimming and gymnastics provide the base for all other sports.

That’s why we believe “Sport Starts Here”…

Don’t take our word for it, check out the wonderful resources provided by the Canadian Sport For Life Movement which was started in 2005 with funding from Sport Canada.  Other related information and ideas can be found on the Active For Life website.

Science, research and decades of experience all point to the same thing: kids will get active, stay active, and even reach the greatest heights of sport achievement  if they do the right things at the right time.  The Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model that was developed by the leaders of the Canadian Sport for Life Movement describes the things kids need to be doing at specific ages and stages in their development.
